Mayor Cathleen Lewis
Cathleen Lewis, 32, has resided in the township for seven years. She has spent much of her professional career working in legislative and government affairs, and has dealt with a wide variety of policy issues at the local, state and federal level. Lewis is the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for the AAA New Jersey Automobile Club, where her duties include representing her organization on a variety of traffic safety issues to all levels of government, including the State of New Jersey. As transportation professional she has provided input to a variety of community and business organizations on issues ranging from mobility and traffic safety to transportation funding
Before joining AAA, Lewis worked for New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission from 2007 to 2010 as Senior Public Information Officer and Legislative Liaison, overseeing communication activities and formulating policy opinions on legislation. Lewis also worked for Congressman Rush Holt.
Lewis is an active member of the community, serving on the Lawrence Township Zoning Board since 2006 and participating in a number of organizations from the Eggerts Crossing Civic League to the League of Women Voters. Her work with each of these organizations helped to shape her belief that government needs to more responsive and visible to its residents.
She graduated from Douglass College at Rutgers University in 2001 with a B.A. in Political Science. She lives with her husband, Paul Penna and their daughter, Abigail.
