Swim Lessons
The Recreation Department provides swim lessons in the Lawrence High School pool. Each session includes eight lessons. The class sizes are limited and will be filled on a first registered basis.
LEVEL 1 - This course is designed specifically for 3 to 5 year olds who have had little or no exposure to the water. Emphasis is on safety, water enjoyment and water skills including blowing bubbles, kicking, floating on their backs and FUN! Children must be 3 and toilet trained prior to the start of class.
LEVEL 2 - This class emphasizes water safety, enjoyment and water skills including elementary back stroke, back and front float, kicks and beginner stroke. Prerequisites: water comfort and the ability to participate in a group class setting.
LEVEL 3 - The class is designed for stroke development for the front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke kick and endurance development. The students will receive instruction to swim in shallow and deep end water, tread water, dive from a seated and kneeling position and surface dive to recover an object at a depth of 7 feet. Prerequisites: Must be comfortable in water, be able to float on their back for 15 seconds swim a width of the pool (60 feet) and use a kickboard on their front and back.
LEVEL 4 - This class is for stroke perfection of the front crawl and backstroke and to work on breaststroke, side stroke and butterfly. Students will also work on standing dives, flip turns and water safety and basic rescues. Pre-requisites: Pass level 3 or be able to swim at least 25 meters of the front crawl and 25 meters of the backstroke, float for 30 seconds on their back and tread water for 2 minutes.
Fee & Location
The cost is $75 per session for residents of Lawrence Township. All swim instruction is held in the pool at the Lawrence High School 2525 Princeton Pike. Each session includes 8 lessons on the day(s) of the week listed below. No registrations will be accepter prior to March 14.
