ABOUT US

The Township Manager is the chief executive and chief administrative officer of the Township government. Responsibilities of the Manager include the appointment and removal of Township personnel (except appointments made by Township Council pursuant to State law), the supervision of all departments of the Township government, the negotiation of contracts, the preparation of the budget, the management of municipal property and the coordination of departmental activities.

Employment

All appointments are made according to merit and fitness and in accordance with the constitution and statutes of the State. Effective September 1, 2011, all employees of State and local government must reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under law. Regarding terms and conditions of employment, most employees are covered by employment agreements negotiated between a union or association and the Township Manager and subject to approval by Township Council. There are six (6) such bargaining units.

Crossing Guards - Lawrence Township Police Department is accepting applications for Crossing Guards for the 2019/2020 school year. Crossing Guards receive paid training and generally work approximately ten (10) hours per week. The hourly rate is $17.40. Applications are available at the link above and at Police Headquarters. Mechanic Diesel/Hydraulic - Full Time Position - Must have two (2) two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines, motor vehicles, hydraulic systems and equipment. CDL Class “A” is desired. (ASE) Certifications desirable (Engine Repair, Electrical, Engine Performance). Successful completion of (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school. Must be available for emergency snow and ice removal. Provisional appointment pending a Civil Service Examination. Individuals who accept provisional appointments and have no permanent underlying status are not provided the rights and protection under Title 4A of the New Jersey Administrative Code.
