Per Diem Firefighter – Lawrence Township Fire Department
Hourly Rate: $21.05 per hour
The Lawrence Township Fire Department is seeking qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Per Diem Firefighter. This is an on-call position to support career staffing and maintain minimum response levels.
Position Summary:
Per Diem Firefighters respond to emergency incidents including fires, rescues, medical emergencies, and hazardous conditions to protect life and property. Responsibilities include extinguishing fires, performing rescue operations, administering emergency medical care, and operating firefighting apparatus and equipment. Firefighters also maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities, conduct inspections, and support fire prevention and community outreach initiatives.
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in high-stress and hazardous environments, including extreme heat, confined spaces, and adverse weather conditions. Candidates must demonstrate strong teamwork, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma
Valid NJ Drivers License
Minimum of Three (3) Years Active Firefighting Experience
Must Pass Background Investigation and Medical Exam
Must Pass Mandatory Training and Fit Testing
Must be in good physical condition and able to perform the essential functions of the position
Must possess current certifications:
NJ Firefighter 1
Bloodborne Pathogens
NJ Developmental Disabilities Awareness
CPR/AED Certification
Basic Vehicle Extrication
Preferred Certifications
ICS 200 / NJDFS Level 1
NJ First Responder / EMT
Additional Information:
Per diem employees are eligible to earn sick leave in accordance with the New Jersey Earned Sick Leave Law
