Public Works

The responsibilities of the Department of Public Works include maintaining municipal roadways and drainage systems, the issuance of road opening permits, snow removal, garbage collection, brush and yard waste collection, maintaining the township's recreational facilities and the care of the municipal buildings.

The Lawrence Township Department of Public Works strives to afford residents and visitors with the highest quality of services in the care of our public infrastructure and facilities.  The Public Works Department employees serve with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork.

This work is accomplished by utilizing cost effective practices, technology, shared services, and innovation.  Responding to the routine services or public emergencies, the employees of the Public Works Department are dedicated to serving the public needs.  Through special projects, capital improvements, and supporting special events, the Public Works staff is focused on maintaining our community assets.  

The Township's Public Works Department manages a 22 square mile municipality in Mercer County with approximately 33,000 residents.  The Department has several Divisions with 35 full time employees.

The Public Works Department coordinates emergency snow/ice removal for 200 lane miles of municipal roads.  We coordinate and repair roadways, drainage, traffic signs, road markings, and emergency storm response.  Our staff manages all municipal facilities located in the Township (Police/Court, Firehouses, EMS, Public Works, Town Hall, Senior Center, etc).  Our responsibility also includes the management of 2,000 acres of property and open space.

NOTICES

Mulch Delivery
The Lawrence Township Public Works Department will again provide the free mulch delivery program this year. The delivery is free and the cost of the mulch is reasonable. See the attached for more details or an order form.

New Electronics Recycling Site 
Beginning Wednesday, June 28 Lawrence residents will be able to dispose of electronics at the Joseph Maher Ecological site - 3701 Princeton Pike. See the attached for more details including hours of operation and restrictions.

Truck-Mounted Mosquito Larviciding
The Mercer County Mosquito Control will conduct Truck-Mounted larviciding  throughout the County, which includes the use of target-specific, biorational granules applied to standing water to help prevent larval mosquitoes from developing into biting adult mosquitoes. Township Tree Maintenance Program
The Township will be removing trees, on Township owned property, that have been impacted by the ash borer as part of it's ongoing Tree Maintenance program.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YARD WASTE  (Suspended during November and December for Leaf Collection)
COLLECTION RULES:  Brush will be picked up according to the zone schedule. Please refer to the Zone Map. Brush (one pile no longer than 12 feet in length) should be placed at curbside no earlier than the weekend prior to scheduled week of pickup. Click here for details.

Landscaper Registration Policy
Ordinance no. 375 requires all landscaping contractors, who perform work within Lawrence Township, to complete a registration form. Please click here for additional details and form.

Ecological Facility
701 Princeton Pike (south of Fackler Road) - Hours:  Monday thru Friday, 7:30am - 2:30pm  -  Saturday Hours: April 1 thru November 30 - 7:30am - 2:30pm

Batteries
While single use batteries can be put in the trash, rechargeable batteries cannot and must be recycled. For more details including where to properly dispose of them see the attached.
