Common Construction Projects
Plumbing (Public and Private Systems)
1.Submit Plumbing Subcode Technical Form.
2.A plumbing permit is required. There is no fee for the permit.
3.Plans are not required but recommended to insure proper installation, location and piping methods.
4.Installation may be by a Master plumber licenses in State of NJ or the principal homeowner.
5.If a well is involved, the only water that goes through this meter is what is used inside the dwelling.
6.If the dwelling is connected to public water, then the secondary meter measures water consumption on faucets, fixtures, etc., which is used for irrigation, pools, washing vehicles, etc. In some cases some piping work may be involved to separate this water pipe.
7.Remotes must be installed on all meters.
8.The water company does not sell water meters. Contact local plumbing suppliers to purchase them.
9.Notify your water company for any additional requirements
[In all cases of plumbing or electrical projects where a contractor is hired, EACH copy of the permit application must have the raised seal of the contractor.]
1.Secondary Water Meter: A water meter installed on the water main (after the water company’s primary water meter) in the dwelling that measures water consumption on faucets, fixtures, etc. This water does not enter the house drainage system. This water is used for irrigation, pools, washing vehicles, etc.
2.Remote: Portable electronic device for reading water consumption from outside the property.
The state allows each municipality to adopt their own fee schedules based on the actual costs incurred. The fee schedule is monitored annually by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to ensure the fees are not excessive and are adequate to cover appropriate costs.
The cost of a permit is set by township ordinance available at the township Construction Office.
For the successful completion of your project, in addition to general guidance and information in this section, The Construction Department reserves the right to ask for any specific information or clarification unique to your project.
